Local effects: increases the flow of blood and lymph, heat is produced and blood vessels and muscles are subject to relaxation. An increase in removal of the products of metabolism occurs. Further effects: accelerated blood and lymph circulation, release of tissue hormones: histamines, amines and prostaglandin. Therapeutic massage is used to ease stiffness, tension and pain.
